Dolphin Reef

As promised, here is the first of a series of older oceanic animals related pictures. I was bored one afternoon and lounging on my bed staring across the room at one of my figurines. It was a bright piece featuring a dolphin swimming around a coral rock.

So I grabbed some paper and a pencil and sketched the figurine, trying to retain the sense of 3D. It was the first time I managed to sucessfully foreshorten an aspect of my art. The seaweed, coral, and fish are all part of the original scuplture, but I added the octopus because it just seemed to fit. Afterwards, I outlined the whole piece in black ink.

I loved how it turned out so much that I began a drawing frenzy using that "style". By the way, I was in ninth grade at the time.
