Description
First thing that popped into my mind was a seahorse-like creature with wings and a long forked tongue. I can imagine it eating nectar from flowers like a humming bird and making cute little purring sounds when touched. I quite like the name 'Reidi' for this little creature. ~ Ritchie, NaNoWriMo '06
When a fellow Nano'er needed help on creating a magical creature for his NaNo '06 novel, dozens of people replied with suggestions. The above description of an unique little beast, hatched from a small egg, was suggested by Ritichie. I could see the creature in my mind's eye and just had to sketch it. Thus, the Reidi was born!
I chose dragonfly wings as oppose to the more traditional butterfly or more common bird wings because I liked how the angles would play off the angles of the seahorse-like body. Also, I sketched the hand to demonstrate its size. (Of course, I used my own hand as a model and I have some super tiny hands, so that might not help with judging sizes. ) I pictured it much larger than real sea-horses but still extremely small and delicate. I absolutely adore the little guy!!
